We Cut Corners

We Cut Corners

from Dublin

wecutcorners.net

"We Cut Corners' excellent debut sees them jump easily between making a glorious guitar-shredding racket (the Patti Smith-esque Three People, the poppy The Leopard and the plaintive Say Yes To Everything) and creating perfectly crafted lo-fi folk pop (A Pirate's Life, Dumb Blonde… The lyrics are great throughout, reminiscent of Belle & Sebastian at their most sweetly caustic." (Rough Trade)

We Cut Corners are a stunning proposition and yet more proof that two-pieces can be the most enthralling, thrilling and dynamic of bands. So we're super-psyched to host their first Norwich gig to help promote the UK release of their critically-acclaimed 10-track debut album, Today I Realised I Could Go Home Backwards, which clocks in at 27 mins and 03 seconds.

Short. Sharp. Genius lyrics. Sonically varied. Perfect. And you really should check out their diverse selection of amazing videos.

"2011 has finally produced its first buzz band." (The Sunday Times (Ireland) album of the week)

"Like a rapacious amalgamation of Belle & Sebastian, Ash and The White Stripes (not for the obvious dynamics reason that you assume!), the Emerald Isle's best-kept secret is now being exported our way. Heavy but with a certain pop lilt, their storming vignettes are full of energy and spit. Every bit as electric live, they've cut their teeth as support for Joan As A Policewoman, Villages, Two Door Cinema and The Maccabees, and they're now coming over to England… Catch them [while] they're still a hushed recommendation." Khan

Khan

"Imagine Future of the Left doing donuts in a G-reg Vauxhall Nova with Jesus Lizard on the back seat and you're somewhere close." (drownedinsound.com)

It's big riffs, big muffs, big drums and short songs from the thrilling Khan, providing some perfectly complementary bone-crushing rawk, played loud with beards. And shouting.

The rhythm section is rumbling and the lead guitar forefronts abrasively and amazingly.

Comparisons can easily be drawn with bands such as Future of the Left, Hawk Eye, Kong etc but they also give a sexy wink to some greats such as Shellac, Nirvana, and the Jesus Lizard. It is clear from their 16 July-released debut single Broadswords that Khan is a brilliant live band… And here's some footage of that very track filmed when Khan supported Cage The Elephant at NAC in August 2011.

Kings & Crows

Kings & Crows

"Great music and showmanship… Musically it's hard to find fault." (Treehouse Festival)

We're very excited to welcome Kings & Crows to their first wombatwombat gig, bringing their special mixture of mirth, groove and macabre storytelling to the party – they like to call it "their own brand of twangy man-pop" and we think you'll love it.

Plus Howlback Hum bands in the bar: line-up TBC.
