Digging deeperWho'd have thought it: 10 years of wombatwombat. Just like Howlback Hum, which started in November 2000, we felt Norwich needed at least one non-venue run music promotions outfit after the Wilde Club decided to have a break – thanks to Baz for that opportunity and massive respect for his inspiration, constant support and encouragement, not to mention happy birthday to him every 13 December. wombatwombat began promoting twice a month – our first gig was on Tuesday 12 December 2000 at the Ferryboat with Kensuke Kimachi (Charlene Bearsuit on bass), The Charlie Horse (Smit Fever Fever on drums) and Crone – and now there are so many indie promoters we're more or less every other month. Our 100th gig showcased Rory McVicar and Cthru27 at the EXIT festival in Serbia in July 2006. And on Friday 10 December 2010 we bring you installment 146, compered by Luke Wright, whose Aisle16 poetry collective is also 10 this month. Bearsuit, too, have been entertaining since 2000, when members of Scumbag Philosopher were in Fiel Garvie. And BROTHERS? They're the world's best new band of 2010, no question. Please join us in wishing Paul wombat a full recovery from his stroke and a speedy return to our burrow, hopefully in time to enjoy – with all our old and new friends – a 10/10 10th birthday and Christmas celebration of sparkling sounds, fun and freebies and then some... Norwich Arts Centre, Friday 10 December 2010, at 8pm: see you there! |
