Digging deeperHeck, it's almost October already. That means it's time for wombatwombat's annual Peel Day celebration, on Friday 8th, at Norwich Arts Centre – a venue that John often visited as a punter and patron, making it a fitting place to showcase a tiny selection of some of the best breaking bands around: prepare to be shaken to your core. Hell yes! Having given Fever Fever their first ever gig (as Trickbabies on 18 January 2008), we're gagging to host the Artrocker darlings' debut headline slot at NAC, which also happens to be the launch night for their new release on Cherryade, The Bloodless EP. Get in. And, as it's such a special night, we've got extra special guests. In February, Islet blew away NAC's audience, not to mention the other acts on the bill they opened – they rammed both off-stage good and proper: it was joyous. The Cardiff foursome has spent the rest of the year continuing to wow with their gob-smacking inventiveness, making 2011 promise greater things: see them now. Then do it again. Another quartet that'll have you begging for more is the dazzling Death of Death of Discotheque. Their insatiable manic mutant art-punk is both fresh and dirty... a flavour to savour, a treat in which to indulge, a sound to champion, 'til death do us dance. Even better, we've got a Peel-endorsed compere for the evening! wombateers, put your hands together for the rather lovely musician and DJ Seymour Patrick (née Glass), whose rolling around on the floor in full-on rant while fronting Miss Black America thrilled audiences at our Ferryboat gigs. Similarly, our stage at NAC has been graced and rocked by his newer noise project, Ten City Nation... Naturally, we can't wait to hear what he's got lined up as tunes and between band banter – best you be there. |
