![]() Typewriter Radio play wombatwombat on Friday 25 February 2011 @ NACThis will be Typewriter Radio's third gig – please tell us about your musical heritage, ie which other bands have you been in, when and why Typewriter Radio formed, etc... Typewriter Radio began as a writing partnership between Ian and Dan who met last year while working at Marienbad. They then sought out band members in the summer of 2010, first we found Lee, then Gyannis and by the start of 2011 we were out gigging. ...and what's the best way to describe your sound? We haven't yet found the best way to describe our sound but Arthur Cravan recently mentioned that we sounded like "Gutsy English soldiers with bombastic finger-snapping beats, hooky angular guitars and rapturous vocal melodies". Which other local/national/international acts do you rate as hot? Locally we're into Fever Fever, Darwin & the Dinosaur and The Deets. Nationally the Steven Frys [sure, Ed], Lost Alone, Foreign Office. And internationally Blonde Redhead and Toto. What are your thoughts about battle of the bands-type competitions? They encourage a safe and enjoyable type of 'battle', for people not quite comfortable with going to war. What are Typewriter Radio's hopes for 2011? Jet packs, cleaning robots, hover boards and summer festival slots. Who does what in the band? Generally, Ian chops the veg, Gyannis washes up, Dan does the ironing and Lee holds the line. We have no boundaries: we all do as much of whatever as we can really. We're into being creative so we go with each other's ideas and hopefully the best idea wins through. Tune into Typewriter Radio's 11 December 2010 live session for Mr Jason on BreakThru Radio here – don't forget to switch off the live streaming first!
