Digging deeperGet yourself to Norwich Arts Centre on Friday 17 June 2011 for a sizzling night of awesome action. Unfortunately The Brownies are no longer able to join us, as Mike will be kit-kicking for Dinosaur Pile-up after all... Replacement date to be sorted as soon as we can get our collective diaries straight! Talking of replacements, we're delighted to welcome Norwich's fastest rising riot grrrl punkas, Fever Fever to our bill. Fresh from dates all over the place, the world is at the six hot, kicking, itchy feet of this edgy, witty, spitty trio that's never too tired to riot. Basically, you mustn't miss this hometown slot before Smith, Ellie and Rosie head off on a never-ending world tour. Genre-mashing London-based Parisian exiles Underground Railroad's third LP, White Night Stand, comes out on Monday 13 June and wombatwombat has bagged one of only two UK dates in release week, making this one rather pretty damn hot ticket. Grandcrew's website has a taste of UR live, plus an interview in French, from their 29 April 2011 gig at la Fléche d'Or, Paris, supporting Asobi Seksu; go to 2 mins 37 secs to hear Marion powering through UR's classic track Headache in "grunty" rather than "sweet and savoury" vocal mode. And HibOO d'Live has a couple of acoustic versions of new material shot outside at the French national library, la bibliothéque François Mitterrand, at 1.30am the next morning. The band's even got a White Night Stand video channel on Vimeo, where you can check out four more new tracks with some very cool visuals. Do it. Then come to see them live and loud. As if that wasn't enough, it's the debut gig for Norwich super-group The Day The Robots Came! Expect a circuit-frazzling assault of mainly instrumental alternative/ambient/shoegaze/rock that flits between pretty soundscapes and apocalyptic cinematic scores at the flick of a switch. Boom! All that and Howlback Hum in the bar, which tonight stars Vase, The Gore Vidals , Master Solo, Winter Berries, Ben Grizzly & The Loose Leaf Drifters. So, eight bands for just £7 in advance – on sale now from NAC (01603 660352), Soundclash (01603 761004) and UEA (01603 508050) or online, plus booking fee where applicable – or £9 on the door, from 8pm. This is going to be a stonking night, don't miss it. |
