![]() Luke Wright comperes wombatwombat's 10th birthday and Christmas party on Friday 10 December 2010 @ NACAs one of the UK's top stand-up poets, we're privileged to have you compere our special celebration: what are you bringing to the party? I've got a bundle of new poems, mostly gruesome ballads about miserable little towns in East Anglia. What has been your performance highlight of the year so far... In October a few other Aisle16-ers and I finished our run of Homework, our night of literary miscellany in east London. The brief that month was to tell your worst gig story. Mine's pretty awful, but it was fun – perhaps cathartic – to tell. The other highlight was compering John Cooper Clarke in front of 1500 people at Latitude. Very special. ...and what are you most looking forward to in 2011? The launch of my new show Cynical Ballads, starting with a two-week run at the Leicester Square Theatre. To what extent has the birth of your son affected your approach to work and its content? Not a huge deal directly, but I think it's changed me a lot so inevitably my work will have matured a bit. Please tell us about The Ballad of Stanley David Woods, your contribution to our new compilation CD. It's the story of a former spitfire pilot who gets robbed and comes up with a novel way of squaring it with the crooks. Typically the press spoil it though. ![]() |
